Dahi Mushroom | Indian Style mushroom recipe

Dahi Mushroom is a delicious Indian dish made with mushrooms cooked in a creamy yogurt-based sauce. It is a flavorful and comforting vegetarian option. Here’s a recipe for Dahi Mushroom:

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup plain yogurt (curd)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust according to your spice preference)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves (cilantro), for garnishing
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pan or kadhai (wok) over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and chopped green chili. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.
  3. Add chopped onions and cook until they turn golden brown.
  4. Add tomato puree and cook for a few minutes until the oil separates from the mixture.
  5. Reduce the heat to low. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for another minute.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk the yogurt until smooth. Gradually add the whisked yogurt to the pan, stirring continuously to avoid curdling.
  7. Add sliced mushrooms to the pan and mix well with the yogurt-based sauce.
  8. Cover the pan and let the mushrooms cook on low heat for about 10-12 minutes until they become tender and the flavors blend together.
  9. Stir in garam masala and cook for another minute.
  10. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  11. Serve the creamy and flavorful Dahi Mushroom with roti, naan, or rice.

Note: You can adjust the consistency of the sauce by adding water or adjusting the amount of yogurt according to your preference. Feel free to customize the spices and add your own variations to suit your taste.
